About Us
Founded in 1971 under the leadership of Rabbi Benjamin Bak, zt"l,, Shomrei Emunah is an Orthodox synagogue that has grown from an initial membership of 13 families to more than 500 member families today. Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, currently the Executive VP of the Orthodox Union succeeded Rabbi Bak and served the congregation for 13 years. Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb served as Rabbi from 2003 to 2009.
In 2010 Rabbi Binyamin Marwick was appointed Rabbi of the congregation. His passion, commitment to the community, and scholarly background are hallmarks of the congregation as a whole.
Shomrei Emunah is a full service synagogue and a vibrant Jewish center in the Greenspring-Cheswolde area. It maintains a complete schedule of religious services, a comprehensive adult education program, a a full youth program incorporating internationally acclaimed presentations for teens, as well as an active Israel Task Force. As a diverse and inclusive synagogue with a heterogeneous blend of backgrounds and ideologies across the Orthodox spectrum, the congregation feels a strong commitment to outreach programming for the larger Baltimore Jewish community.
Mission: As a center of Jewish worship, Torah study, and Torah observance on the highest level, Congregation Shomrei Emunah offers its members and the greater Baltimore Jewish community a comprehensive program of services, educational opportunities, and activities committed to enhancing and fulfilling the traditions and requirements of Torah Judaism.
