Congregation Shomrei Emunah Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore, Maryland
Founded in 1971 under the leadership of Rabbi Benjamin Bak, zt"l,, Shomrei Emunah is an Orthodox synagogue that has grown from an initial membership of 13 families to more than 420 member families today. Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, currently the Executive VP of the Orthodox Union succeeded Rabbi Bak and served the congregation for 13 years, until December of 2001. At that time, Rabbi Dovid Heber served the shul as Interim Rabbi during the rabbinic search process.
In 2003 Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb was appointed Rabbi of the congregation, and his scholarly erudition, pastoral skills, and community focus have infused Shomrei Emunah with new energy. Rabbi Gottlieb took a sabbatical in June of 2009, at which time Rabbi Binyamin Marwick served as Interim Rabbi.
Shomrei Emunah is a full service synagogue and a vibrant Jewish center in the Greenspring-Cheswolde area. It maintains a complete schedule of religious services, a comprehensive adult education program, a a full youth program incorporating internationally acclaimed presentations for teens, as well as an active Israel Task Force. As a diverse and inclusive synagogue with a heterogeneous blend of backgrounds and ideologies across the Orthodox spectrum, the congregation feels a strong commitment to outreach programming for the larger Baltimore Jewish community.
Shomrei Emunah is currently involved in building for the future. The shul will hold a Chanukas HaBayis on December 15, 2009.
In 2006 Rabbi Adir Posy joined Shomrei
Emunah as a Rabbinic Intern. Mr. Avi Frydman is
the executive director, and Mr. Dov Ocken is the Youth Director.
